It is disheartening to hear there has been no improvement in the local bat population.

Bats are actually very beneficial. One of our biggest challenges at the farm is fighting pests and protecting our naturally grown crops. Most bats are insectivores and act as a natural pest control. Even one little brown or gray bat can consume over 1,000 mosquitoes in one hour.

Unfortunately, deforestation, urban sprawl, commercial development, mining, quarrying, irresponsible tourism, and large agricultural expansion are attributed to causing the bat’s loss of habitat.

Learn more about bats or how to become involved in bat conservation by visiting the Bat Conservation International website.

Are you crafty? Do you live in an area friendly to bats? Consider building a proper bat house.
